Day 19 - Unforgiveness is a Wedge Between You and God
Matthew 6:9-15 (NIV)
The Calling of Matthew
9 “This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’
14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
Today's scripture is a hard truth to read.
Forgiveness is hard sometimes. Other people’s actions towards us can cause a lot of pain, both in the moment and many years down the track. It can feel like it is just an issue between you and them.
But God reminds us that unforgiveness is like an illness that infiltrates all our relationships – including the one between us and God.
Have you ever stopped to consider that unforgiveness hinders your relationship with God? Is there someone that you are struggling to forgive? God wants you to let go and ask for His help in this.
Spend some time in repentance today for any unforgiveness in your heart. Then, ask God for the strength to forgive and follow His guidance in this.
